What is the Circular Economy?

Currently, most of what we consume flows through a linear, ‘take, make, waste’ economy, in which products and materials are made, used, and then thrown away. A Circular Economy, by contrast, focuses on regeneration, restoration, and re-use at all stages of a resource’s life cycle. This allows products, materials, and components to remain in circulation at their highest value for the longest period, and the waste generated by a linear economy is designed out from the start.

What is ECCE?

The Exeter Centre for the Circular Economy (ECCE) is a research led centre and our team is composed of university and industry facing researchers and educators, all highly skilled in solving complex problems.

When was it launched?

The Centre was originally launched by Dame Ellen MacArthur in 2018 and the wider University is a Partner of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. Established to advance the theory and practice of circular economy we deliver impact nationally and internationally through a diverse portfolio of research, education and collaboration activities.
