Community-Powered Circular Economy: The Role of Data
While the circular economy is often discussed in technical terms, its success depends on a systemic, human-centred approach. Central to this transition is the creation of digital common grounds; ecosystems where data sharing enables the high-value retention of materials.
This webinar examines the intersection of sociotechnical design and resource management. We will analyse the systemic barriers facing UK and global communities and present data-driven frameworks designed to empower local stakeholders.
We’ll hear from leading researchers Dr Clement Lee, Professor Anne Touboulic, Dr Lucy McCarthy, alongside Pauline Metivier from ReLondon and Edward Hibbert from Freegle, who we’ve recently spotlighted in a DICE N+ Case Study.
Purpose:
Bridge the Gap: Align academic research with industry adoption to accelerate the transition to a data-enabled circular economy.
Showcase Innovation: Highlight real-world case studies from DICE network stakeholders that solve systemic environmental and social challenges.
Identify Barriers: Pinpoint the data and technology, as well as policy and finance gaps preventing circularity at scale.
Key highlights:
The Scaling Roadmap: Lucy McCarthy (University of Bristol) and Anne Touboulic (University of Nottingham) will give us an overview of the community challenges and how a more sustainable and circular approach can facilitate solutions.
Community in Action: Clement Lee (University of Newcastle) and Ed Hibbert (Freegle) will examine the sharing economy and Freegle, a digital sharing platform that enables people to share items and maintain them in the loop at their highest value possible.
Building the Ecosystem: A high-level panel discussion, alongside Pauline Metivier (ReLondon), talking about the business drivers and policy frameworks needed to turn data into the “backbone” of circularity and the shift required in consumer mindsets.
